The e-Forum Privacy Working Group has been set up to ask the question: are privacy rights in the European Union being left behind? This question is being posed in particular in the context of expanding digital technologies, and increasing use of individuals’ personal data by companies and governments. The initiative was also triggered by the Stockholm Programme, the EU’s 2010-2014 justice and security strategy, which is likely to result in a number of measures relating to privacy and data protection.
