e-Forum co-organises Chinese low-carbon cities event

e-Forum has worked with the Chinese cities of Handan and Yantai to discuss the transferability of the CATCH project within a Chinese context. CATCH (Carbon-Aware Travel Choice) is an EU-funded project that has developed a resource to raise awareness among urban stakeholders of problems arising from greenhouse gas emissions, and the potential of local and international policy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from urban transport.

CATCH has developed a knowledge platform that enables local decision-makers to move their city’s population towards less carbon-intensive transport. e-Forum is a partner in CATCH.

The Chinese meeting was organised on 7 December 2011 in Yantai. The objective was to set out a strategy to leverage the presence of a Chinese partner – the Handan Informatisation Office – to champion future EU/China cooperation projects dealing with eGovernance. The event discussed other EU/China communication projects, with a particular focus on CATCH, demonstrating how such projects can be effective for good practice exchange.

The Yantai workshop concluded with an agreement to hold a second event in July 2012. Funding has been applied for to carry on this focused networking in China to help build on the results of EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) projects.
